Notice: Users of XP Home editions cannot be joined to a Domain.
These users will have to have their systems re-installed with XP Professional (or Windows 7 Enterprise...)
Migration Procedure for XP Users

Stage Overview:
- Join computer to domain.
- Convert local profile to be a ‘domain’ profile. You will need to have the MOVEUSER.EXE file to complete this stage.
- Remove Technician’s profile.
Stage 1 – Join computer to domain.
- Navigate to where you have the JoinAD.vbs script.
and run the script by typing JoinAD.vbs

(On XP, you can simply double-click the JoinAD script if you want. On Vista, you must use
the command prompt launched with "administrator" level credentials.)
- You will be prompted to confirm that you want to join this computer to the
domain. Clicking Yes will continue, - clicking No will terminate.

- The "Join" process will take several seconds. But then, you should be
prompted with a dialog box asking for the End User's Oak ID - (Not your Oak ID...)
The oakid entered into this box will be given administrative access to the local computer.

- Next, you will see a dialog box asking for the appropriate prefix for the computer.
You should already know what this is based on the end user's planning unit...

Next, you should see a rename completion message.

- Click OK to reboot the computer.
- When the computer reboots, if they were not set for auto-login then you will need to login as
a local administrator.

- You should then see a completion message.

- Click OK to reboot the computer.
- You should then see the initial AD logon screen...

Press Ctrl-Alt-Del and login with YOUR technician Oak ID –The login will be in the format of: OakID@ohio.edu
(If you do not have a local profile to move, you can simply reboot once your login is completed...)
Stage 2 – Convert local profile to be a ‘domain’ profile.
- If you do have a local profile to move, then open a Command Prompt.
- You will now need to run the MOVEUSER utility. Navigate to where you have the utility stored and run the
utility by typing;
moveuser UserName OHIO\OakID Where “UserName” is the user name
that was being used before, and OakID is the End User’s OakID. (These may be the same…)

When the process finishes, you should see the following message...:
If the Moveuser step fails, you may need to follow These Instructions
- When the move process is finished, reboot and login using the End User’s OakID.

Stage 3 – Remove Technician’s profile.
- Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties.

- Click on the Advanced tab and click on the Settings button in the User Profiles section.

- Locate your Technician Profile and click on the delete button.
